Today we celebrate the birth of Eleanor Marx, Co-Founder and Mother of our Union. Following a motion passed at Congress 2015, the 16th January is dedicated to celebrating the important role she played in creating GMB Union The first woman organiser, Eleanor set up the first women's branch, wrote the first rule book and was at the forefront of the campaign for the eight hour working day. We are proud to follow the path that Eleanor helped create for us all. #EleanorMarx#Tussy You can read more about Eleanor Marx on our brand new shiny website https://www.gmb.org.uk/history-gmb
GMB Southern are planning a march and rally on Saturday 2nd Feb at 12 noon, to highlight ISS and the way they treat their staff at Kingston Hospital. Come and join us to help our members demand the right to decent pay, terms and conditions!
Tomorrow is Fat Cat Friday, the day the UK’s top bosses will have made more money in a single day than the typical UK full-time worker will earn in the entire year. This is sickening. It's time to narrow the pay gap in our increasingly unequal society.
GMB welcome withdrawal of interest in John Roan School by University Schools Trust “Our members were unimpressed with the failure of UST to provide adequate reassurances regarding the staff’s future and they were so unimpressed they took to the picket line in large numbers to express their concern”, says GMB Southern https://www.gmb-southern.org.uk/news/ust-withdraw-interest-in-john-roan-school
Over Christmas most of us take a break. But the work doesn't stop for those who care for us, our families and our relatives - not even at Christmas. People like the inspirational Rosemary: 🎄 worked on every Christmas Day for 40+ years 💕 She loves the job so much 👏 74 years old and still showing no signs of retiring from doing what she loves. Please help us say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to Rosemary, and all the other carers across the UK who do an amazing job all year round, but especially at times like Christmas. Share this video 👇
Tonight is the last Friday before Christmas and over recent years we have seen a significant spike in assaults on 999 responders this evening. Our emergency services are over-stretched, short-staffed and under-resourced - so please be courteous to our crews. Please share this message with others 👇
Some great news just before Christmas. After strike action at John Roan School the UST academy trust take over is off. Whatever happens next GMB will continue to protect members jobs, terms and conditions. Congratulations to those amazing members who stood together and got such a great result!
Some pics from our demo today. Members who work for ISS at Kingston Hospital want the same pay and terms and conditions as other NHS workers. ISS need to stop acting like Scrooge and pay a living wage and sick pay.
